Rare Terrarium Plants, Air Plants, and More at Repticon Memphis July 30-31 – Ya’ll Come!

I’m meeting my good friend, the Air Plant King from The Funny Farm himself, Michael Seal, down in Southaven next week at the Repticon Memphis convention.

What’s Repticon, you ask?  Well, in September of 2009 Repticon expanded West with Repticon Memphis, a major reptile expo. Hosted at The Landers Center (formerly known as the Desoto Civic Center) in Southaven, Mississippi,  guests from Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi have a chance to encounter a wide variety of reptiles and amphibians that they might not have had the opportunity to experience in their home cities. (Guests from outside of Mississippi purchasing pets to take home should check first to make sure their new pets are welcome by their local laws.) Repticon Memphis was also the second Repticon show to feature a venomous-included area, featuring non-native venomous snakes from around the world. Lots of herpers come out to the show from all over the tri-state, and we are very excited to be joining the lineup of vendors.

You can find all the details here: Repticon Memphis

Michael is bringing a passel of tillandsias and other bromeliads, driftwood, and whatnot.  Check out his website,

I’m bringing terrarium plants, terrariums, kokedama, crystals and minerals, terrarium soil mix and kits, and who knows what all!

Check out the photos below, and give me a call at 901-828-3685 with any questions.  Please leave your info for occasional plant posts.

Come see us, it should be very interesting…

Happy Mother’s Day Plant People!

This is the first post on my newly revamped website.  Thanks, Rod Kirby, for your patience and diligent help in getting me up and running in time for Mom Shopping!

imageMom like birds?  This secret moss bowl, with a magpie on top, and a little red hen inside, nestled in a bed of soft, growing moss, may be just the ticket at $45.image

imageOr something a little more dazzling?  This ten inch tulip vase is more than a year old, with a beautiful espicia that blooms under very low light conditions.  Little Dorothy is filled with crystals, geodes, and more to form an impish wonderland, and will grow to fill this container in a year or so if not kept trimmed.  $125

Or, best of all, book an afternoon Build a Terry party for mom and a crew to get their hands in the dirt and make their own living art to enjoy for years to come.  Pricing for parties vary based on materials chosen for customizing, but basic 8 inch bowl and three basic plants is $75 per person, minimum of two and maximum of five people.  Bring your own wine …

About Green Mansions Memphis

image

.

Green Mansions are unique, sustainable terrariums created by Nancy Morrow. More than a rainforest in a jar, they are sentient friends, silent wondrous worlds of green life. Lift the top and smell Eden. Terries are low maintenance and particularly suited to urban environments and small spaces. I plant my terries with loving care, then spend weeks or months training the plants and shaping the landscape; they live for years with minimal maintenance.

Green Mansions are popular gifts for housewarmings, and brighten up any office desktop or reception area.  Many people keep them on kitchen breakfast countertops, or under skylights in the master bath.  Kids who like the outdoors are fascinated by the ever changing worlds under glass. They are long lasting gifts for Mom, Dad, and anyone you want to show some love.  Cut flowers are pretty for day; a terrarium will bring years of joy.

Get your own tiny rainforest at Diane’s Art, Gift, and Home, on Overton Park Street; at the Annesdale Park Gallery or The Spa Midtown, both  on Peabody Avenue, all in Midtown Memphis.

Prices range from $25 for wine glass moss creations to an average of $80 for a medium tabletop bowl; prices vary by size, the rarity of the plants, etc.

Terrariums, plants and supplies are available by appointment at the Mansion, along with the opportunity to build your own and learn about the world of gardening under glass.  Custom designs are my specialty, and inquiries on plant matters are welcome.  You can contact me for an appointment, or watch for my sales and workshops at locations around the city.
